Blimp The Flying Adventures Sneak Peek Review for iPhone and iPod Touch
Craneballs Studios have pre-released their highly anticipated game to Appmodo called Blimp – The Flying Adventures, which is available for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. Not yet released in the App Store, Blimp takes you on a two dimensional (2D) flight game where you pilot a blimp and must maneuver each exciting world and avoid the enemy.
Review
Blimp’s story takes you on a journey of a captain named Zed Pelina who works on a merchant planet called Solbot. After leaving the Alliance, Zed finds a job at a merchant company and is called upon to save his friends and deliver supplies. Blimp is a simulated interactive gravitational game that utilizes the iPhone’s accelerometer where you must avoid platforms, walls, flames, hot vents, radioactive vents, and more.
Craneballs graphic artist Jan Cefelin commented about the game environment.
“We’ve combined our many years of experience in graphic design with digital paintng to create an unique and novel iPhone graphical environment. We wanted co come up with a perfect audio-visual experience for all players. We are not content with just ordinary applicatons and games, we want to make polished products everyone can enjoy”.
Gameplay for Blimp is very intuitive and offers a challenge throughout 20 levels. There are 5 different story locations (dark Forest, Mines, Snow Mountains, Red Rocks, Radiation) that have various enemies in them including tanks, gun nests, blimps, bunkers, and more. Game performance is also very smooth and I did not experience any pixelation or lag issues.
Blimp offers crisp two dimensional (2D) graphics that feature amazing original hand painted artwork. Game animations include very high quality particle effects of fires, explosions, radiation exposure, steam vents, and more. The game’s storyline also has a comic style that matches the original artwork.
Controls for Blimp are very easy to use with an just a hot air button to gain altitude. To direct the blimp simply tilt the phone in either direction which uses the iPhone’s accelerometer controls. There is also a bombing button to kill enemies.
The soundtrack for Blimp is an all original movie track that features 11 different songs. The sound effects are also realistic and match the particle animations perfectly. Volume is controlled via the iPhone’s volume button and silence all option.
Overall, Blimp – The Flying Adventures is a two dimensional (2D) flight game that offers hand painted artwork, high quality particle effects, original sound track, and more.
Tips
1. Watch your health. Your blimp is delicate and running into platforms, walls, and other objects will damage it. Make sure you stay clear of the surrounding obstacles.
2. Diamonds are a ladies best friend. There are diamonds hidden throughout each level that are worth a lot of extra points. Pay attention to your surroundings and try to find them within the allotted amount of time.
Recommendation
I recommend Blimp – The Flying Adventures to children and adults of all ages. Blimp The Flying Adventures sells for $2.99 and will be available in the App Store soon!
