Golfing enthusiasts, you can now get down to the basics with Super Stick Golf by Noodlecake Games. In this stick-art styled golf game, you’ll have to drive your ball across hills and water and sand traps. You won’t have to worry about wild winds or trudging long distances. You just need to focus on getting your driving angle right and cutting your strokes, and more significantly, you can pull super clubs out of your golf bag. Can you score a hole-in-one?

Super Stick Golf is a 2D side-scrolling game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. As a tiny stick-figure golfer, your aim is to hit your ball into the hole in as few strokes as possible.

Just like in an actual golf game, you’ll have to beware of sand traps and water. If your ball drops into water, you’ll lose it and have to hit-off again from the same spot at which you made the bad shot. You also have to watch the hills. Should your ball land or roll onto a downslope, you could lose much of the distance you’ve gained. Luckily, unlike in a real golf match, you can “cheat” with a few super clubs. The first power-up, Mulligan, will give you a chance to re-hit if you make a bad shot, and more power-ups will be unlocked as you make more achievements. For instance, you’ll be able to make your ball stick on ceilings or walls, and even freeze water or make your shots pause in mid-air.

The game controls are super simple. A pair of left and right arrows allow you to control your shot angle. Once you’ve adjusted the angle, just tap, “go!” A green power indicator will start moving. To drive a hard shot, tap “go!” again when the green meter is at its greatest. On the other hand, if you’re putting when the flag is just nearby, you’ll want to tap “go!” when the green meter is toward its lowest level.

Super Stick Golf has two groups of golf courses: eight new super courses and sixteen classic courses. Each course offers both a Practice Tee game mode as well as Campaign play. Since this is a stick-art game, the graphics are of course simple, but the ball physics work well and the different courses offer highly challenging play. Super Stick Golf has retro-sounding music, which suits its simple game style. Replay value is excellent, especially if you’re a perfectionist who insists on trying persistently to improve your score.

If you don’t want to be surprised by a tough course, take some trial swings at the Practice Tee first.

Super Stick Golf, currently available in the App Store for $0.99, is a fun 2D game recommended to casual gamers and anyone who appreciates golf.
