If you recall, I wrote a hands-on preview of an early build of Hunters: Episode One HD for the iPad and really liked the game despite a few shortcomings, mostly in the form of bugs and early-release glitches. Now, that I’ve been playing the full and current version (recent 1.03 update fixes even more bugs), I can accurately judge the title and most of the previous complaints have been addressed. I haven’t had the game freeze one time on me yet or crash totally; nor have I experienced bugs in the form of a level not being completable (even after accomplishing the min objective). In the previous built I couldn’t complete a mission where I uncovered an artifact and went to the destination point while ending the turn (it would just continue no matter how many turns I ended or where I went on the map). These glitches all seem addressed with the 1.02 build I am playing. The levels, so far, play out and end like they’re supposed to; and the game should be appealing to any strategy gamer out there. ‘Hunters’ by Rodeo Games has been generating a lot of attention lately in the Apple gaming circles as the next big strategy game coming out on the iDevices — and for a good reason. I had a chance to sit down with the current build of the game for the iPad and try out some of the game’s core gameplay mechanics out. The preview build I am using still has some problems, but those should be ironed out by the time the game gets released. In one mission the iPad touchscreen responsiveness stopped working in being able to move and select units. But I was able to go to the menu screen and pan the view around. Despite these setbacks by an early build and things to work out by the developers, Hunters is already looking like a spectacular game.
