This week, I had the opportunity to preview Pinch 2 HD by Coatsink Software, an iPad sequel to Pinch, which was released mid-2010 for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Although this was not a release build and a couple of bugs still do exist, I was impressed. Pinch 2 HD is a solid puzzle game with attractive graphics and fun, challenging gameplay. Apple was recently granted twelve new patents by the US Patent and Trademark Office. One patent, in particular, is for a number of multi-touch gestures which we may soon see applied to the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

Found on Crunch Gear, the following YouTube video shows how a group of hackers were able to create a multi-touch iPhone monitor running iPhone OS 2.0 software. The monitor even has accelerometer support and gesture control! Details about the hack state the iPhone OS is “basically a Linux Mach kernel” allowing it to be bootable on Intel hardware within an emulator which you can see when they first fire it up. Very cool and interesting.
