6th Planet Review for iPhone and iPod Touch

6th Planet Review for iPhone and iPod Touch

6th Planet by Monkube is a game that mixes comic book storytelling with ‘Moon Lander’ type of gameplay. Throughout the game’s various levels, you control a monkey in a space suit boarding a capsule-like spacecraft. You will be using the touchscreen’s left and right inputs to thrust and guide the monkey to his destination of Saturn. You do this by tapping the opposite direction with your finger to where you want him to move; or by tapping simultaneously in both directions and thrusts to have the monkey slow down (or fly up.) This is a great game with unforgiving and challenging gameplay; and with gameplay that is very relaxing and soothing. Sometimes the game can feel a bit slow paced, but it mixes relaxation and frustration nicely.

Kami Retro Review for iPhone and iPod Touch

Kami Retro Review for iPhone and iPod Touch

Kami Retro is the latest far out and crazy-looking retro game from GAMEVIL. It is a platformer with Lemmings type of gameplay mixed in, as you control multiple on-screen characters that appear from a doorway magically into the levels. The game is very retro looking, hence the title, but with great visual flair and 3D backgrounds that just come to life once you start playing. There is a lot of interactivity between platforms and other objects in the game world — because you use these various objects to help guide your characters across to the other doorway. The game will also make you think and challenge your logic skills because there are puzzle elements mixed in with the platforming.

NinJump Deluxe Review for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad

NinJump Deluxe Review for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad

NinJump Deluxe is a game perfectly designed for the iDevices. It is a casual, quick, pick-up-and-play title from Backflip Studios that is also unforgiving and challenging. Whether you are playing on the iPod, iPhone or the HD iPad version, the game can be played with one hand and while standing up. All the action happens vertically in portrait-orientation mode where you control a ninja trying to survive hordes of attackers aiming to prevent him climbing up. NinJump Deluxe belongs to the vertical-climber genre of titles on the App Store. But unlike most other vertical climbers, in this game there are four different environments to choose from. They range from a pirate setting with parrots and cannons included, to a jungle with snakes and frogs coming out of the walls.

I Luv Chocolat Review for iPhone and iPod Touch

I Luv Chocolat Review for iPhone and iPod Touch

At first glance, I Luv Chocolat looked like an intriguing platformer. The screenshots made the game seem bright, colorful and humorous. They reminded me of the Clockwork Knight series on the Sega Saturn. I soon found out my assumptions were wrong and this game is nothing like the great Clockwork Knight titles. Yes the game, made by Zatun, is a platformer; and yes, you can jump around the single-area background while trying to collect various candies and items falling down. The problem with the game is mainly how repetitive it is and how badly the controls are implemented. While I understand the difficulty in making sliding controls work for movement on the iDevice’s small touchscreen, what’s wrong with controls similar to League of Evil’s directional inputs? or even the way the iDevice Ghosts’N Goblins games play? In I Luv Chocolat, I literally couldn’t move left or right an inch half the time playing. Yes, I understand this game was probably in development before League of Evil — but it’s still no excuse to how poor the control execution is.
