Sony Drops Second App Store Smear Commercial

Following their initial anti-Apple App Store smear commercial, Sony has released a follow-up commercial that aims to educate consumers about the inadequacies of the games available on Apple’s platform. The commercials star child-actor Bobb’e J. Thompson, who you may recognize from the movie Role Models.
EA Mobile’s Madden NFL 11 Makes App Store History

Electronic Arts released Madden NFL 2011 for consoles earlier this week and EA Mobile was not far behind with the release of Madden NFL 11 for the iPhone and iPad. The game made app store history this week, marking the first time an iPad app priced above $10 has achieved both a top grossing and top paid #1 positions in the app store rankings for the iPad. The game has also averaged 4 of 5 stars, something that most developers would dream of achieving. Congrats EA!

Big Pixel Studios is celebrating the launch of their new iOS game, “Meow Meow Happy Fight”, with some big promotions. The game itself will launch very soon on Apple’s App Store with a 66% discount off of the normal price, an older game Piyo Blocks 2 for 33% off, and the original Piyo Blocks game for FREE.

New Law Legalizes “Jailbreaking”, Installing Unapproved Apps

A new set of government rules, announced today, includes the legalization of smartphone “jailbreaking”. “Jailbreaking” involves hacking a smartphone to allow the installation of “unapproved” applications for a given operating system. What has been a hazy “rule” for a long time, is now officially off the “naughty list” for all smartphone users.

Over the weekend we heard about the iTunes Appstore HACK! Apparently the developer was successfully able to take over 42 out of 50 Top Sales in the Book category. Apple recently responded and decided to just throw Thuat Nguyen the developer out of the app store. Apple recommends that if any fraudulent were made to cancel your credit card. Some of you may remember seeing Appmodo’s review of Superblox just two weeks ago. Well, for a “very limited time” “Superblox: Powers Unleashed” is FREE on the Apple App Store! When reviewed, this app was priced at $0.99 (down from $1.99), but for free, Superblox is a must.

iPad App Store Now 10,000+ Apps Strong

Only Day 73 since the iPad’s launch and another milestone has been reached. The number of iPad-native apps now available in the App Store have just hit the 10,000 mark. This is quite a feat in itself, especially since it only took the iPad half the amount of time that the iPhone took to reach the same app count. Go to iPadmodo for more.
GameFly Releases GameCenter App for Android and Palm

Video game rental subscription service, GameFly, have released their popular GameCenter app originally found on the iPhone, on Android and Palm devices. GameCenter provides a portal for gamers to follow up on the latest news, videos, cheats, releases and more for all the major video gaming consoles and handhelds including Playstation 2 and 3, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Xbox, PSP, and mobile devices.
Gameloft’s 1st Quarter Earnings Pull $44 Million

Gameloft has announced the company saw a 7 percent rise in revenue for the first half of 2010, which ended March 31st, to a tune of $44 Million USD (33 Million Euros). The increase in sales was due to a 37 percent increase in Europe, 34 percent North America and 29 in other countries.
