This week, HP filed papers into the USPTO to trademark the name “PalmPad”. Now, Examiner has it on good authority that the rumored “PalmPad” will also feature a “digital pen”, along with functioning as a capacitive touchscreen.

Look out iPad! HP has a new toy — it’s called Palm — and they’re coming to play with a tablet of their own. According to recently filed paperwork at the USPTO, HP is looking to trademark the name “PalmPad”.

According to a new article at Business Insider, HP wasn’t the only company eyeballing Palm before they were acquired. A source “familiar with the negotiations” has leaked that Apple, Google, and Blackberry-maker Research in Motion (RIM) were mixed up in a bidding war for the company that brought us webOS.

According to the websites of both HP and Palm, HP has finally completed their full acquisition of Palm for $5.70 per share (or $1.2 billion total) as of today.

Sources say that Palm has recently filed their 8-K report, papers required to explain any major corporate changes (i.e. being acquired by HP), with the SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) last week. As read in the SEC paperwork, the finalized acquisition should be taking place on July 1st (this Thursday), but depending on clearance from the SEC, could get pushed through sometime before that. Let the HP-Palm experiment begin.

Video game rental subscription service, GameFly, have released their popular GameCenter app originally found on the iPhone, on Android and Palm devices. GameCenter provides a portal for gamers to follow up on the latest news, videos, cheats, releases and more for all the major video gaming consoles and handhelds including Playstation 2 and 3, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Xbox, PSP, and mobile devices.
Verizon Drops Price of Palm Pre to $30 on Contract

It looks likes Verizon does not have fate with HP and Palm. Verizon is offering a Palm Plus Pre for just $30 as long as you sign a two-year contract. This price is the same as Big Red’s Pixi Plus and has a very large price margin between Sprint and AT&T.

With news of the latest in smartphone technology coming in on daily basis, it’s hard to believe that only 21 percent of wireless subscribers have made the switch. According to a report by NielsenWire, those numbers are beginning to go up. They have seen a steady increase from the 14 percent late in 2008 to the 21 percent figure from the fourth quarter of 2009.

Palm just made it official. Palm’s Pre Plus and Pixi Plus will soon be joining the AT&T Network. According to the press release, the Palm Pre Plus will cost $149.99 and the Pixi Plus, $49.99 with a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate. The statement, however, did not disclose as to when these devices will be made available for public consumption. Stay with us and we’ll let you know as more news develops.
App Store Race, Apple Blows Everyone Out of The Water

Silicon Alley Insider recently posted a new graph detailing how all the app stores stand against each other, in what some might call a race but it looks like Apple has a lead that may never be beat. According to this source the Apple App Store now has over 170,000 apps in its catalog, a staggering amount compared to its closest competition with 30,000 in the Andriod Store. The real surprising numbers are in that it only took Apple 10 months to add 120,000 apps that that does not even include the iPad App Store that I am sure will add even more cross over apps. Blackberry came in third with 5,000 apps and Palm in last with only 2,000 apps.Latest Palm App Catalog Additions
