Greenopolis, a subsidiary of Waste Management, will soon launch a social recycling app for iOS and Android mobile devices called RecyclePix. The new app invites users to take pictures of themselves or their friends recycling wherever they are. Sharing and uploading the pics to Facebook and Twitter earns them points that can be redeemed for real rewards like discounts at Domino’s Pizza and exclusive deals at Marriott Hotels.

Irvine’s YouMail (www.youmail.com), a leading provider of cloud-based communication apps and services for smartphones, just officially announced that it now has 2 million users in the United States. This represents both incredible growth and scale of growth, with YouMail doubling its user base in a little more than a year. Essentially, it has taken less than half the time to grow the registered user base from 1M to 2M than it did to go from its 2007 launch to 1M users in 2010.
