Apple just announced the company will be holding a “Special Event” next Wednesday, September 1st up in San Francisco at 10AM PST. Judging by the lead image they sent out, it sounds like it will be music related but we can also hope to see a new Apple TV, iPod refresh, iTunes updates, and possibly Apple TV App related info. What we don’t want to see is the return of John Mayer…

Last week, Research In Motion updated the BlackBerry’s App World with a 2.0 revamp and new features. The company announced the purchase of mobile storefront, Cellmania for an undisclosed amount and experts close to the company are saying that RIM will use the newly acquired company to assist with their own App World.
Dell Steps Their Game Up with Android Powered Aero Smartphone

Dell is stepping their game up (kind of like Marcus PSP- video below) and entering the Smartphone octagon with their own Android powered phone called the Aero. Available through AT&T for $99 with a 2 year contract ($299 without), the phone has a 624MHz processor, runs on Android’s Cupcake OS (version 1.5), supports multitasking, and packs a 5 megapixel camera.

Late last week Gameloft released an update for Modern Combat: Sandstorm(now free) along with a trailer for their upcoming sequel, Modern Combat 2. The trailer doesn’t include any gameplay footage as you’d might expect but does have an indy-style cinematic theme of warfare using an iPhone 4 and iPad as weapons. The game is expected to hit both devices this Fall.

BlackBerry App World Goes 2.0 With New Updates

Research In Motion have released a huge 2.0 update to the BlackBerry App World including the removal of the $2.99 minimum price for paid apps (allowing developers to now charge $0.99), the addition of carrier billing or paying via credit card, a change in revenue split for developers to a 70/30 ratio from the original 80/20, as well as a new BlackBerry ID function that allows you to process credit card payments and move apps to any new device much easier.

The description of the game states “Consumers use out-of-the box thinking and cleverness to get through the 100 brain teasing levels. Facebook iPhone App Gets 3.2 Update, Warning: Adjust Your Privacy Settings

The almighty public information whores, Facebook, have released a new update for their iPhone application bringing the build to version 3.2 which allows for background photo uploading as well as Places, a new feature for the site. Places is similar to FourSquare, where you can tag (or be tagged by friends!) of where you are which is somewhat disturbing.
