Remember the story about the girl who fell into an open manhole while walking and texting? Well, have no fear for iType2Go Pro for iPhone and iPod Touch is here to save the day! This app, developed by XCool Apps, uses your iPhone’s camera and allows you to see in front of you while you walk, text, send email, and update your Twitter or Facebook status all at the same time.

Review
iType2Go Pro was recently featured by David Pogue of the New York Times and found the app to be an idea that really works. The app superimposes the camera’s view on the top portion of the screen, which is also where your typewritten words will appear. The virtual keyboard appears on the bottom half. The app has two views; portrait mode and for those seeking a much larger keyboard, a landscape mode.

The app offers a simple interface however, it is helpful to access the help screen foremost to familiarize yourself with iType2Go’s features. The menu/setting appears when you tap on the iType2Go name on the top left corner of the screen. From there you can configure your Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as, access the help menu.

The top bar serves as your command line. Tapping on three different areas of the bar will prompt specific actions. Tap the app name on the top left portion of the bar will bring up the menu, tap the middle to completely erase all your text and is also the location where the number of characters you have used is displayed. This is extremely helpful for Twitter updates, in order to keep it at the 140 character minimum. Finally, tapping the right portion of the bar will copy the text to the clipboard. Once you finish typing and tap on the right portion of the bar, icons for Facebook, Twitter, SMS and Mail will appear. Simply select one of the four and your copied text will appear on that application. Well, almost.

Integration with Twitter, Facebook and Mail applications were flawless, however, at the time of this review, the SMS feature was not yet possible within the application. Instead, you will receive a prompt that the text has been copied to the clipboard and gives you the option of opening the SMS application and paste the saved text there.

Recommendation
iType2Go Pro for iPhone and iPod Touch is a useful tool for those who are always on the go and who simply have no time to stop and text. It is an app with near perfect integration that is also fun and easy to use. The iType2Go Pro is available now at the iTunes App Store for $.99.

I think they may have some technical difficulties getting this app to work on the ipod touch…

They do have problems for the Ipod touch!! I tried several times and even sent emails for help. No response from itypetogopro. The only response was from Apple and they agreed to credit my account.. Thank you Apple

  3. XCool says:

@Edward – I did not receive any mail from you regarding iPod touch compatibility. Current v1.01 does not execute properly on the iPod touch and will fail as it couldn't find a camera.

As of v1.02, both Pro and Free versions will have iPod touch compatibility. However, the background will be plain gray as the iPod touch does not have a camera.
