Hipstamatic Review for iPhone

iPhone photography never looked so retro! For those wanting the look and feel of plastic toy cameras from days long ago, Hipstamatic is the app for you. Not only will it turn your photographs into creative works of art, the app does an amazingly great job and transforms your iPhone into a whole new camera.

Hipstamatic imitates old school toy cameras, complete with the low-tech plastic lenses, external flash attachments and film choice, each providing their own set of medium-format photos that results in blurred subjects, weird color effects and interesting vignettes. This isn’t a camera defect; far from it, in fact. This is where Hipstamatic truly shines and is the reason why so many Lomography fans love their toy cameras. It’s all about the unpredictability of it all!

Just like a real camera, there’s a front and a back. With the front facing you on the iPhone’s screen, you may change the lens by swiping a finger across the front of the camera’s body. Pressing the button on the lower right corner of the screen will flip the camera where you open and select the type of film you want to use. Once this is set, simply look into the camera’s small viewfinder and press the big yellow button to your right.

Photographs are saved to your photo library or can be viewed from within the app itself complete with photo information providing the type of lens or film used and whether the flash was on or off. Full size prints can then be emailed or uploaded directly to your Facebook account.

A good number of films and lenses come with the Hipstamatic, however, if you simply just can’t get enough, (I don’t know of any photographer that ever is), additional films and lenses can be purchased using the in-app purchasing feature.

Recommendation
Hipstamatic for iPhone comes highly recommended to photography enthusiasts of all ages. It is a fun application that will surely bring any dull Kodak moment to life. For a mere $1.99 at the iTunes App Store, why not give yourself a treat and buy that new/old toy camera today.
