For fishing fans and those who have never tried because of the mess, here’s an app for you to enjoy. It’s called Flick Fishing for iPhone and iPod Touch. Freeverse has created a whole new world for you to fish in, starting from an old pond to catch catfish to deep in the ocean to catch the infamous blue marlin.
Review
Flick Fishing is a fishing simulator. You are given three fishing modes to choose from: “Go Fishing,” which serves as a free fishing experience, “Big Catch,” a tournament where the fisherman with the highest weight total caught in 3 minutes wins, and “Big Fish,” where the largest fish caught in 3 minutes determines the winner. Both Big Catch and Big Fish can be played against the computer, local multiplayer or local network multiplayer.
From the start, every location, fish, lure, and bait is available to you and you’re free to fish at your leisure with your best catches stored in the game’s photo album. You are given a long list of fish to catch across half a dozen different locations including red snapper, bass, catfish, and swordfish. Changing your lure or adding bait from your tackle box will help you to attract specific types of fish, and it’s almost guaranteed you’re always able to catch something. You can earn trophies tied to tournaments at each location.
Controls for fishing are intuitive. Just a flick of the wrist will cast the line out into the water. To reel in the fish you must make a counter-clockwise motion over the on-screen virtual-reel. When a fish bites, you can either jerk the iPhone, as you would in reality or spin the reel to set the hook and then it’s just you against the virtual-fish. When a fish bites on your line, two meters appear at the top of the screen, one for line tension and the other for fish strength. This process is pretty straightforward, the bigger the fish, the more strength and the more you will have to work to reel in by giving it some slack and then reeling in over and over. By doing this, the fish will get tired and you will be able to reel it all the way without your line breaking. If not done right, the line will break and your fish will get away.
Flick Fishing’s graphics are beautiful. The attention to detail that Freeverse gave each location and by providing a separate environment for each place simply immerses the player in the experience. From the tranquil ponds to the stormy and rainy seas, you just can’t ask for more. So head over to the in-game photo album, pick out the biggest fish you’ve caught, grab a name from your contacts list and brag about it!
Recommendation
Flick Fishing for iPhone and iPod Touch comes highly recommended to fishing and non-fishing fans of all ages. It’s simply a fun game that provides great graphics and intuitive controls which will provide gamers many enjoyable hours of fishing bliss. It is available at the iTunes App Store for a mere $.99.
