Innovative Mobile Social App Connects Students, Teachers: Classting
Seoul, Korea – A new social media application for iOS, Android, and the web has launched, designed to change the way people communicate, yet again. This time, however, socializing isn’t purely recreational. It’s also educational.
Classting CEO Dave Cho, a former elementary school teacher from South Korea seeks to revolutionize the way teachers, students, and parents interact with his new application. Noting that students were reluctant to add teachers and parents to their social media profiles, and their clear preference for that method of communication over clunky, outdated school websites, Cho struck upon an idea.
Classting embodies all of the innovations which have made services like Facebook popular, putting them to work for a new purpose. Users join Classting, and then search for or create their virtual classroom. Here, instructors can create instant class notices, counsel students privately, and share files. The class newsfeed keeps everyone up to date and allows for comments and feedback. Users can create their own home profile, to share their thoughts and photos, as well.
Not only are classmates more connected than ever with Classting, they can also connect with other classes, anywhere in the world, by requesting an “exchange program” through the “Ting” feature. Perhaps a Japanese language teacher in the United States would like to pair her students with virtual pen pals in Japan. Classting is designed to make that effortless, and is designing international versions of its app for just that purpose.
The newly launched application has received attention from high places already; Google chose the app as one of its favorite start-ups as part of a program sponsored by the Korean government and SoftBank Ventures has invested 1 billion won ($941,000) in the application. Softbank Ventures is part of SoftBank Corp., a Japanese telecommunications company.
