Tower Raiders 2 puts an exciting spin on the traditional tower defense games out today.  If you haven’t played it yet, it’s a well developed tower defender strategy game with impressive graphics, sound effects and overall game play.

Review

Tower Raiders 2 is an app designed for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices.  Like all tower defense games there is a path on the screen which the raiders will follow.  Along that path are several platforms where you can build different defence towers.  These towers will automatically target and attack the raiders as they enter their attack range.  You start out with three simple towers, gunner, missile and laser and as you progress through the game you gain access to additional options.  Each tower can be upgraded at least twice to increase its power as well.

Where tower raiders 2 adds an interesting twist is rather than preventing the raiders from getting to the end of the path being the only goal, this game has a pile of crystals somewhere along the path which you have to protect.  These crystals could be just about anywhere on the path and if the raiders get to them they will pick them up to carry to the end of the path.  If your towers are able to kill the raider before it reaches the end of the path the crystals will travel back to the original pile.

The raiders will attack in waves getting progressively harder each level.  At first the levels are extremely easy and can be beaten with just random placement of towers but it quickly gets more difficult.  As more towers become available you have to focus on developing a strategy of placing the right towers in the proper area to get the most damage possible.  In addition you have to balance spending the resources (in game currency) with saving it up to get more powerful towers.

Each level you play has a different path which the raiders go through and different placement of the platforms.  This will ensure every level is fun and challenging.  You also have to learn the new towers as they come available and how to fit them into your overall strategy.  This game has an excellent progression of difficulty and each level changes enough to keep you coming back for more.

In addition to the excellent tower defence game play there is a great overall storyline which develops as you progress through the levels.  This is a nice addition to the game which makes it even more enjoyable since you’re not just playing each level alone but building up on the story.

Recommendation

Tower Raiders 2 is a must-buy for anyone who loves tower defence or strategy based games.  It has really pushed these genera of gaming to the next level with superb graphics, easy to learn controls and seemly endless hours of fun playing it.  This game will be ideal for anyone ages 8 and up as it requires some complex strategy and concentration.
