How mighty a pirate are you? In Cutlass Cove by Cheeky Mammoth, you’ll battle other pirate ships and the Spanish navy while plundering merchant ships. You’ll have at your disposal not only canons but also powerful voodoo spells.

Review

Cutlass Cove is a universal app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. In this casual game, you have to down as many ships as you can, as well as evade incoming fire from other ships. If you let more than six ships escape your zone, it’s game over.

The controls are simple. To steer your ship, you only have to tap right and left to get it to turn accordingly, and you can fire your cannons either from the left or right, also through tapping. Three cannonball power-ups are available for you to collect. You also have access to eight voodoo spells, which include a whirlpool, oil slick, and net, but you may only use each once. Other than firing at other ships, you may capture other pirates who have dropped into the water, but you must sail to them before the sharks snap them up.

Cutlass Cove is pretty fun, and although there aren’t any levels you can advance through, you’ll be given various objectives. Through completing these, you can climb the pirate ranks.

Recommendation

Cutlass Cove, currently available in the App Store for $0.99, is recommended to those who enjoy casual games.
