Crazy Hedgy Review for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
Crazy Hedgy is a universal app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. By tilting your device, you’ll be maneuvering around obstacles and leaping across gulfs. Even if you happen to be one of those who generally dislike tilt controls, you should still give this game a try. Your device will be calibrated before each level, and I found the sensitivity just about right. I didn’t have much trouble getting where I wanted, although my eyes got tired after awhile, which is no fault of the game.
Aside from rolling your hedgehog around to collect gems, coins, etc, you’ll also have to punch out the baddies. Punching is easy: just tap the left side of the screen. To jump, you’ll tap the right side—once for a regular jump, and two quick taps for a long-distance bubblegum jump. Other attacks, such as the grab attack (which hurls explosive barrels) are performed with slide gestures. Several power-ups are also available. Valuables may be found in crates, which you’ll have to crack open. Sometimes you may be lucky enough to find a protective helmet, among other things.
The graphics are stunning, and even on the non-retina iPad you won’t suffer any blurry images. Perhaps the best part about Crazy Hedgy are the upgrades you can unlock with gems and coins earned. You can improve your hedgehog’s fighting skills and let him learn special attack techniques such as the power slide and upper cut. Powerful gem-sucking magnets are also available, as well as souped-up helmets, punching gloves, more potent bubblegum, and extra hearts (lives).
Altogether, there are over 35 levels spread across three worlds. You’ll encounter a variety of enemies, including tough bosses, and lots of spiky or otherwise dangerous obstacles. The simple controls make this game easy to pick up, letting you immediately jump right into the fun.
Crazy Hedgy is a must-buy for fans of platformers, especially if you enjoy tilt-control games and 3D graphics. This universal app is currently available in the App Store for $4.99.
