Measured – Measure. Store. Share. is a productivity app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that lets you take measurements just by snapping two photos. Sounds simple? Well, yes, it is. Honest. And it works too.

Okay, so you do have to do a little more than just shoot with your iOS camera. You have to also walk a few steps between each shot, heel-to-toe. And obviously, the object you wish to measure must be in your photos. Once you’ve done all this, you’re close to finished. All you have to do to get your dimensions computed is to indicate in both photos the area you wish measured, which you’ll achieve by manipulating a pair of arrows.

I found Measured to be amazingly accurate. The trickiest part to the whole process is probably getting your shoe size right, which isn’t all that tricky unless your shoe sizing label has gotten worn out and faded. You can even save multiple shoe sizes for those times when you are out in different shoes. International shoe sizes are included, and you can choose between regular and athletic shoes. The one thing unaccounted for is bare feet. It would be good if such an option were added for those times when we’re not wearing shoes, no matter how rare that might be; instead of a shoe size, we could then input the length of our feet in inches and/or centimeters (this would also double as a more accurate way of inputting shoe size).

Although the heart of Measured is about getting measurements through snapshots, the app also allows you to label objects in a photo with dimensions you have obtained manually. With this easy-to-use app, Hollingtech has outdone their earlier measurement app, SpectaRuler.

Recommendation
Just till this New Year weekend, Measured – Measure. Store. Share. is on offer in the App Store for $2.99. This is a remarkably useful utility for any iPhone or iPod Touch, which is likely to always have a place in your pocket, unlike a physical tape measure.
