iVigilo Video Suite Review for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad
If you love shooting videos on your iOS device, you’ll probably wish you could do more with your videos than the native camera app allows. iVigilo Video Suite by Naboo BV is many steps up from most video recording apps, for it offers real-time video processing as well as live broadcasting and time-lapse recordings.
Review
iVigilo Video Suite is a universal app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Obviously, you will need to own a newer device with a camera in order to use this app.
One of the first differences you’ll notice about iVigilo Video Suite is that you can separately control the exposure and focus point throughout your entire recording process. Many camera apps have this feature, but not video apps, and definitely not the native camera app. Being able to manually change your exposure and focus points while recording is extremely handy, especially when you’re faced with changing lighting conditions. This alone makes the app worth its asking price, but it doesn’t stop short here. The app also allows you to make real-time adjustments to other video effects, such as a combination of contrast, saturation, temperature, tint, and other preset effects, including color filters and sepia. These additional effects can alternatively be applied after you’re done recording.
The app also has a zoom feature, but unfortunately it’s hard to access, as it’s tucked away with the other effects. Furthermore, if you have real-time effects turned off to achieve a better frame rate (especially if you have an older device), you will not be able to use zoom at all. It would have been far better if zoom had its own sliding control bar on the screen, or if we could use our fingers to pinch in and out.
Other features some may appreciate include video broadcasting (to a website, which may be password protected) and time-lapse recordings, which can condense 24 hours into as little as five minutes, or up to 240 minutes. If you’re recording in a dim area with an iPhone 4 or 4S, you also will have the option to turn your LED flash on. Videos may be saved in up to three resolutions (depending on your device capability): 1080p, 720p, and 480p.
Despite the inconvenient zoom access, iVigilo Video Suite is the best video recording app I’ve tried thus far. The only other thing that could make the app perfect is a pair of virtual scissors, to let us trim, split, and possibly even join videos.
Recommendation
iVigilo Video Suite, currently available in the App Store for $1.99, is a must-buy for all video enthusiasts, especially if you own an iPhone 4S with its terrific camera. And if you own an iPad 2, this is a really great deal for a universal app with such a rich feature set.
