Back in Time for iPhone Review

Landka has recently released Back in Time for iPhone. This basically has the same content as the original iPad version, which I reviewed about two months ago, but is rearranged for the smaller screen. Even though I’ve already explored the book on the iPad, I must say it still looks awesome on my phone.

Review
Back in Time for iPhone is of course also compatible with the iPod Touch. Just as in its iPad cousin, the app presents you with a clock to wind back by a maximum of “24 hours”. This takes you back through natural history, right to the Big Bang and all the milestones that follow, culminating with the arrival and development of human kind.

This animated book is just about as easy to browse on the iPhone as it is on the iPad. Of course, with the smaller screen, fewer items can be displayed simultaneously and there’ll be more page flipping. Everything transitions smoothly.

The one disadvantage the iPhone version has compared to the original Back in Time for iPad is naturally the smaller size. Although I found the text perfectly easy to read, some individuals who typically have trouble reading smaller print may find it less attractive than the iPad version. It would be good if Landka could in future implement text zooming with word wrap, especially for large sections of text, to cater to different personal preferences. Regardless of the limitations of a smaller screen, the entire book with its gorgeous images, animations, videos, and relaxing music is both educational and a work of art in itself.

Recommendation
Back in Time for iPhone is now available in the App Store for $4.99. If you don’t own an iPad, here’s your chance to have this amazing and informative book in your iPhone or iPod Touch. And if you already own this on your iPad and love it, you may still wish to consider this more portable version. This book, in my opinion, is well worth purchasing.
