UNESCO World Heritage Review for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you love to travel, whether to historical cities, far-flung ruins, or the tranquil wilderness, UNESCO World Heritage by HarperCollins Publishers Ltd will allow you to browse through the best travel locales in the world. This reference app lists and describes all the remarkable places that were proclaimed as UNESCO World Heritage sites from 1978 to 2010.
Review
UNESCO World Heritage is a universal app for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Through this reference, you can learn about some of the world’s most stunning spots, start planning for your next vacation, or view sights you might never have a chance to visit in person. The app offers a list of the current 911 places that are classified as UNESCO World Heritage sites. These include both manmade monuments as well as gorgeous and serene nature spots.
Other than browsing the app’s A-Z list, you can also effortlessly search for sites based on various classification criteria, such as the year inscribed, country, and site classification (cultural, natural, or mixed). You may also bookmark certain sites as favorites and check your most recently viewed sites.
Each site has its own page. Here, you can read about the site, pinpoint its location on a map, and view a photo, although the latter is not available for all sites. Tapping on a text box, map, or photo will allow you to view it in greater detail. Photo quality is pretty good on the iPhone, but average on the iPad, as not all the photos are of adequate resolution. I also wish the app contained more photos. Travelers who are interested in researching places to visit would find greater benefit from this reference app if more travel-related information could be provided about the sites, such as the best spots within an area to visit and transportation details. But as is, this is the only app that’s essentially an encyclopedia of UNESCO World Heritage sites. It’s easy to browse and serves its purpose well.
Recommendation
UNESCO World Heritage is well recommended to avid travelers, as well as anyone who desires to learn more about diverse places around the world. You can be assured every site described within is spectacular in its own way, even though the photos don’t always do the sites justice. This universal, reference app is currently available in the App Store for $4.99.
