AT&T Delivers Warning to MyWi Users, Stop Tethering for Free or Face the Consequences
AT&T is on the prowl! iPhone owners who use MyWi, a popular jailbreak application enabling owners to tether without paying for an additional plan, are instructed to stop by March 27th or suffer the consequences. AT&T is sending SMS messages and/or emails out to MyWi users telling them to cease by this date or automatically be enrolled into the DataPro 4GB plan whether they want to or not. MyWi iPhone owners who had been grandfathered into the unlimited plan will lose that privilege once the switch is made to the DataPro 4GB plan.
Here is a section of the email as reported by AppAdvice:
If we don’t hear from you, we’ll plan to automatically enroll you into DataPro 4GB after March 27, 2011. The new plan – whether you sign up on your own or we automatically enroll you – will replace your current smartphone data plan, including if you are on an unlimited data plan.
What are your thoughts? Is this merely a scare tactic on AT&T’s part or have they developed a tracking system to pinpoint which jailbreakers are getting their service for free?
