TripAdvisor®, a worldwide travel site and an operating company of Expedia, Inc., has just expanded its mobile travel offering with the acquisition of EveryTrail®, a company based in Palo Alto, California. EveryTrail’s GPS-enabled publishing platform for creating outdoor tours and city guides on mobile devices will enhance TripAdvisor’s current services, which encompasses millions of traveler reviews and advice on vacation spots and attractions, hotels, restaurants, etc.

EveryTrail’s CEO, Joost Schreve said, “Like TripAdvisor, EveryTrail is possible because of a global community of travelers who share their stories every day. The mobile platform that we provide lets travelers turn these stories into highly engaging mobile travel guides that help other travelers enjoy their trips even more. We are delighted to join TripAdvisor in this exciting new phase that will give us the ability to bring our tours and guides to TripAdvisor’s 40 million travelers all over the world.”

TripAdvisor already offers several apps for the iPhone, iPad, as well as Android, Nokia, and Palm smartphones. A mobile website is also accessible through major mobile devices. TripAdvisor hopes its new acquisition of EveryTrail will enrich the quality of travel information consumers may access while on the move.
