Bike To Work day has been a tradition in American history dating back to 1956. Thousands gather across the country to take the couple-of-miles ride to their work places each year. But what about telecommuters? How are we supposed to bike to work and carry on the tradition?
The answer is Appmodo's "Top 10 Bike To Work Apps For Telecommuters", where we really do more reading than riding.
The Countdown
10. At the bottom of the list is an application called Mary's Bike where you do more customization of Mary's bike than she actually does pedaling along. The app lets you create different scenes by changing Mary's bike color, hair color, and scenery. Now if only you could have changed the scenery this morning after you were nearly run over on your bike by some jerk...
9. I think I would rather walk than have to play this game all together, but Bike or Die 2 ranks in at number 9 for our "Bike To Work Apps For Telecommuters" list. Self proclaiming "the best 3D bike simulation game for the iPhone", Bike or Die 2 is a physics based bike simulation game with three dimensional graphics and over 2,500 challenging levels. That's a lot of finger sweat.
8. Taking the 8th spot on our countdown is 2XL Supercross, a badass three dimensional racing game available for both the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. Remember that motorcycles are a form of biking and no one said on "national bike to work day" that you couldn't use a motorcycle? Now did they?
7. The 7th application of the top 10 bike to work applications is called BikePower, where you can measure the amount of power produced in specific conditions while biking. The application will take into consideration whether or not you are going up hill or down hill, note your speed, and provide an estimated amount of power.
6. Developed by United Computer Solutions, Inc, iBikeNRun tracks your distance, time, speed, pace, average speed, max speed, calories burned, total distance, and more. You can also view stats and email reports.
5. The 5th app called Path Tracker tracks your paths! Woohoo! Actually, Path Tracker displays your total distance traveled, elapsed time, average speeds, GPS coordinates and altitude. It also exports your data into Google Maps so you can track your very own path. The application will even save your file if you receive a phone call while biking. Watch out though, you may get pulled over for talking on the phone while riding.

3. iRPM Bike Computer allows you to track your heart rate, speed, time in target zones, calories burned, cadence, speed, distance, power, and more. It also allows for multiple types of metrics including watts for current, average and max.
2. The app coming in at 2nd is called Trails-GPS Tracker, which allows you to record, export and import hikes, bike trips, or jogs directly on your iPhone. You can even view your tracks on a live map which includes distances, speed, duration and altitude.
The #1 Bike To Work application available for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch is...
Bike Your Drive is developed by a company called Global Motion Media, Inc, and allows you to track your calories burned, gallons of gas saved, and CO2 saved in the atmosphere by utilizing your iPhone as a GPS unit.
