Lexington, Massachusetts – Announcing PhenomenArts Inc., the developer of Sonitaire, has released an exciting game for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users. Sonitaire is a new launch and truly unique application. Based on the classic card game of Solitaire, this app uses thirty cards with six suits of color, each suit consisting of five gradient colors. Every colored card has a musical note associated with it, which is heard when tapped. A stack of cards plays all the notes in the stack; a win plays the entire song created by the cards used.

Sonitaire is an exciting and fun game just launched in the AppStore. There is no other app quite like it. Created by artist and composer, Christopher Janney, Sonitaire combines pure color and music to offer users a unique twist to that age old favorite card game, Solitaire.

Gameplay in this app is basically the same as Solitaire. Every 3rd, 4th, or 5th card (player’s choice) in the deck is flipped over. Players must stack cards in descending order in the middle row then position them in ascending order in the top row. That’s where the similarity between the two games ends.

The Sonitaire deck consists of a total of thirty cards. Instead of playing with hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs, there are six suits of different colors – red, orange, green, yellow, blue and violet. Within each suit, there are five gradient color variations.

Each of the Sonitaire cards has an associated musical tone. When a player taps on a card, the note sounds. If a player adds a card to a stack, all of the notes in the stack play. When the player wins a game, every tone used in their cards plays out as a song. The player becomes a composer.

All of the cards in this app are numbered to make placement easier. If a player is looking for extra challenge, the card labels may be turned off, leaving the player to figure out where the card belongs without help.

PhenomenArts, Inc. is a group of architects and musicians who create works combining their two disciplines. Sometimes, they make architecture more like music such as they did in their REACH New York project, “Urban Musical Instruments.” Other times, PhenomenArts developers create music to mimic architecture, making it more visual, more physical, as in the performance of “HeartBeat” with Mikhail Baryshnikov.
