Activision; No Potential in Mobile and Social Games, Not Yet
In a recent Reuters interview, Activision’s CEO Bobby Kotick stated that he currently he sees very little monetary gain in the mobile and social gaming industry. Instead, Kotick is relying heavily on the success of the company’s Call of Duty and World of Warcraft franchises, building on these popular titles to gain new customers. “The place where you have the opportunities for growth is within the communities of franchises we control, stated the Activision chief.
Unlike Electronic Arts’ John Riccitiello, whose company has fully committed itself to the rapidly growing industry, Kotick would much rather sit this one out for the time being. According to Kotick, “Social games — which are free to play — attract a huge number of users, but it’s more difficult to translate that into revenue.”
