Review
Christmas is coming, and it’s time to warm up the oven. If you’re too tired to mix and roll out some real dough, you could try Amy’s Cookies and take snapshots of virtual cookies on your iPhone or iPod Touch. This can come in handy if your kids are clamoring to decorate cookies but you’re too afraid of having them turn your kitchen topsy-turvy.

Amy’s Cookies lets you choose from fifteen flavors of dough and toss in fourteen additional ingredients. Using the app is easy. You just select the dough by swiping through the pictures at the bottom of the screen. Next, you can pick the ingredients to add, such as nuts, cheese, chocolate, etc. Tapping “Mix” will take you to the next screen, where you have to effortlessly swirl the dough clockwise with a finger. You’ll “see” the dough mixing and get a pop-up message notifying you it’s ready. Following this, it’s time to select a cookie shape. Then you can send it to the oven and set your baking time. Another pop-up message will let you know it’s done, after which it’s time to frost and decorate. You have twelve frostings and twenty-two toppings to choose from. Finally, to “eat” your cookie, you just have to tap or slide your finger about the screen and imagine how delicious it is. Cookies may be saved into your photo album and also shared with other people through e-mail, Twitter, or Facebook.

The pictures within the app are nice, and young kids can have fun making and decorating virtual cookies without messing up the kitchen or eating too much sugar. If you’re planning on giving your neighbor cookies for Christmas, nothing beats the smell and crunch of freshly baked cookies, but if you’re feeling too lazy, a virtual cookie could still bring a smile to a friend’s face, especially if it’s personally decorated by you.

Recommendation
Amy’s Cookies should be simple enough for kids to play with, and is currently available in the App Store for $0.99.
