  • As much as I want to love eyetv’s capability to stream recorded and live cable TV to my iphone/iPad I have to say the poor reliability and clunkiness of of the hardware/stream capability makes it almost unusable. I’ve had eyetv HD box and the ipad/iphone app for several months. First off, 3G is completely useless. very rarely can get a connection, drop outs and picture quality are atrocious. On WiFi (outside my home) the performance is only marginally better. This applies to ATT hotspots as well as my Clear 4G hotspot (which I routinely get 2 to 3 MBPS performance on with decent 4G signal). I can stream video for a few minutes, then it drops out, gets confused, tells me there is no eyetv to hook up to. Netfilx and Hulu work just fine under the same circumstances. About the only redeeming value to eyetv is that it makes an ok portable tv within my home network. But only ok as it still gets flakey from time to time and drops out, loses sync between picture and sound. I’d give it 2 of 5 stars since I’m sure part of the problem I’m having has to do with network issues out of the control of Elgato. But still its a buggy and frustrating experience (and pretty pricey too if you include the $150 for the box, rental for an additional cable box, the the gall the have charging an additional $5 for the app.
