Beauty and the Beast: iQuipment App Pairs iPhone/iPad with Windows Apps
Campbell, California – INFOMATO, Inc. today unveiled iQuipment, a software package that allows software developers and hobbyists alike to add their iPhone/iPad/iPod touch as a mobile terminal or kiosk for their Windows applications. Vendors can now replace a clunky monitor, keyboard, mouse, thin client computer, and entangled cables with a handheld, “finger pointing” i-device. What’s more, this transformation can be completed in just a few days, and without writing a single line of iOS code.
“Our objective was to reduce both time and expense to a mere 1% of the typical development cost,” said INFOMATO founder Dr. Wayne Lo. “With iQuipment, now any Windows developer can deliver an appealing iPhone UI specific to their Windows app in a matter of days. Without it, a project of this complexity could easily take months and demand an experienced, cross-platform software team.”
Using iQuipment, the coding portion becomes much simpler. For an iPhone to communicate with a custom Windows app via a WiFi or phone network, the Windows app first needs to expose some of its UI variables to iQuipment. This task requires a software programmer with very basic Windows UI skills to add a few lines of code for each of the variables. Once the variables are exposed, all of the coding is finished and the developer can then move on to the UI design without writing any additional code.
The most appealing feature of INFOMATO’s offering is that it enables non-programmers (application engineers, designers, marketers and business owners) to quickly configure a native iPhone UI on a Windows PC. “Designing an effective UI takes time and customer insight. This expertise is very different from programming. We want to separate the two so that business people who want to expand their market through the addition of a superior iPhone/iPad multi-touch interface can quickly and easily custom configure and test them in front of a customer, regardless of their programming expertise,” commented Dr. Lo, who is an innovator himself.
INFOMATO’s market strategy brings together the best of two worlds: the attractive charisma of iPhone/iPad, and the well-established market size of Windows applications. The end result is a match made in heaven. What’s more, considering the potentially high cost of creating a mobile interface for a Windows app using Apple(R)’s Multi-Touch UI, iQuipment – priced at less than $100 and offering OEM options – is an outstanding value.
INFOMATO’s initial target customers are Windows systems developers for laboratory equipment, factory equipment, medical equipment, vending machines, restaurant menu and ordering systems, school students and software hobbyists. Apple Computer in Cupertino is one of the early customers who awards INFOMATO a project using INFOMATO’s innovative software. With the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch market growing at a dizzying rate, even during a recession, the iQuipment package may inspire many Windows developers and smart students alike to rethink their development strategies.
