Spotify iPhone App Approved by Apple

spotify_logoThe approval of this particular application has sparked controversial discussion amongst spotify and iPhone fans. No one was sure whether this app would be approved or not and I can gladly report that it has been.

Spotify is a desktop program that allows the user to stream music live from the web for free due to the company purchasing licenses from the various record company’s. The application’s success has been due to the sheer amount of companies that have sold them licenses, so it has the best selection of music available for free. There are adverts to endure however its a very small price to pay for what we are recieving. The approval of this app was in question due to the fact that it could replace a native app on the iPhone. ie. iTunes. Why would we pay for something we can listen to online for free? There are other apps that do the same thing so why should spotify be any different?

Paid Content UK quotes an Apple spokesperson as saying:

“The current status as of right now is it’s been approved and we hope to add the app to the more than 65,000 apps on the app store very soon. We’ve been in constant communication working with the developer and have already notified Spotify that the app will be in the app store very soon.”

I, for one, was praying this app would get approved and I cant wait to see it in the app store. Finally i think we are seeing the solution to the illegal downloading of music and creating a situation where everyone wins.
