In order to legally tether on an iDevice, you need to go through a cellular carrier like AT&T. The downside is that AT&T requires you to pay an additional fee of $20 per month on top of their data packages in order to use the service (the company also caps you at specific data amounts). To find out more information click here. However if you have a jailbroken iDevice, then you can tether without a carrier (albeit, illegally). The following is a guide of how to tether your iPhone or iPad.

How to Tether your iPhone or iPad

– First you’ll need to Jailbreak your iDevice. If you don’t know how to jailbreak, click here and follow our guide.
– Once you have Cydia installed (after jailbreaking), download MyWi 4.0 for $19.99 (there’s also a trial app) through the Cydia Store.

The MyWi 4.0 app allows you to create a wireless hotspot for your iPhone (2G, 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4) or iPad or laptop such as a Macbook Pro, using your iDevice’s data plan and a USB connection. The app includes 40 bit and 104 bit WEP Security and displays bandwith usage while activated.

Fire up the app and talk away! That’s it!

*Note that jailbreak tethering may incur additional charges to your celluar data contract if the provider notices excess usage. We are not responsible for any extra charges.
