Movie Vault Review for iPhone and iPod Touch

If you love old movies- I mean REALLY old movies – and would like to have easy access to them on your iPhone or iPod Touch, look no further than Movie Vault – Watch Great Classic Movies, by Fling Soft LLC. These classic movies, though available for free since they’re in the public domain, are displayed neatly, with excellent graphics, on Movie Vault’s bookshelf.

There’s not much I can say about old classic movies since they’ve never fascinated me. But if you happen to be a fan of antiquated films, you will probably love Movie Vault.

Movie Vault for the iPhone and iPod Touch follows the earlier release of the iPad version in Aug. In both versions of Movie Vault, you can browse movies in their brightly illustrated covers by scrolling or flicking through shelves that look much like the display in iBooks. When you first start Movie Vault, the app will download the list of movies into your device. Each category is displayed on its own bookshelf. Currently, there are twelve categories: Action & Adventure, Comedy, Crime, Documentary, Drama, Horror, Musicals, Mystery, Romance, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, War and Military, and Western.

If you’re interested in a movie, all you have to do is touch its cover image. You’ll then get a small pop-up with a brief description of the movie. If you wish to watch it, just tap, “Watch Movie”. The movies load as rapidly as a few seconds, but it probably depends on your internet connection speed. Picture quality is as expected of classic movies. For the very brief time I tested the movies, streaming appeared normal and smooth. Of course, I didn’t test more than a few movies, so I can’t vouch for all of them.

Before downloading Movie Vault, you should be aware that all the movies are so old they’re in the public domain. As long as you’ve got a computer and an internet connection, you can find and watch the same movies online for free. But if you want convenient access to such classic movies, you can consider purchasing Movie Vault from the App Store for a reasonable price of $2.99.
