Featured in the top 5 free applications in the App Store, Lemonade Tycoon is a classic sim role playing game (RPG) where you face the challenges of building a lemonade business from a small stand on the side of the road in a local neighborhood to a full corporation.

Review

Gameplay for Lemonade Tycoon was developed by Electronic Arts and is fairly complex with many different ways to promote your business. There are two game modes available, career and challenge, and you can save up to 6 separate profiles at once. The game allows you to view your business reports in the Results section, where it records your Profit & Loss, Charts and Balance Sheets. You can also select from a list of rental locations which have different popularity and satisfaction numbers. Those rental locations include The Suburbs, The Park, Downtown, The Beach, The Mall, The Marina, The Hexa-Stand, The Train Station, The Old Square, and The Magic Gardens.

You also can improve your lemonade stand with a plethora of upgrades to help increase business. Those upgrades include a High Output Citrus Juicer, Miracle 9000 Power Juicer, Shademaker 3000 Canopy, EZserve Cash Register, Mr. Fridge, Ice-o-Matic ice dispenser, High Output Automatic Ice Maker, Take2 Lemonade Dispenser, High-Five Sound System, Bright Lights Neon System, Classic Stand, Lemon Stand, and a Castle Stand.

Marketing efforts for Lemonade Tycoon allow you to adjust the prices per cup, advertising budget, and you can hire two staff members: Martine the Cashier and Simon the Lemon. You can also manipulate your recipe according to the weather by adding ice, sugar, and lemons which affect your customers.

A large challenge to the game is managing your supplies all at once. You must constantly purchase ice because anything that is not used at the end of the day goes to waste. Lemons, sugar, and cups are also included on the list.

Graphics and performance of Lemonade Tycoon are good for a two dimensional game (2D), however there is a little room for improvement in comparison to the other games available like Need for Speed Undercover or Monster Trucks Nitro. The game’s sound track is alright and became annoying after a while. Luckily EA allows you to enable your music library and play your own tunes which I recommend.

My largest issue with Lemonade Tycoon is the pop up advertisements while playing the game. Every couple of days of gameplay (which goes by fast), an advertisement pops up in your face (see screenshots below). While the game is free for the iPhone and iPod Touch, it was an annoying factor during gameplay.

Overall, Lemonade Tycoon is a good sim role playing game (RPG) that offers many features for building the ultimate Lemonade business empire. Whether you create a small stand on the side of the road in a local neighborhood or build a full corporation, is for you to decide.

Tips

1. ICE, ICE, Baby. Managing your supply levels during the game is very crucial to your overall success. The weather also plays a big factor in game play. Make sure you purchase the correct daily amount of ice in reflection to the weather. On hotter days, purchase a lot of ice to support your increased sales. When it’s raining, hold off with 50 cubes or so.

2. Upgrade when necessary. Renting different locations costs money, but staying in your neighborhood has no associated cost. Try to keep your costs low while finding the “right” amount to charge per cup of lemonade and increase sales. Purchasing juicers at the right moments also apply to this tip.

Recommendation

I recommend Lemonade Tycoon to everyone of all ages including sim and role playing game (RPG) enthusiasts. The game is free through the App Store.
