You are known as Agent #022201-22C, an elite super soldier who has broken out of a top secret base in the middle of the desert. Using one of two sophisticated tactical vehicles acquired on the base, you must flee the scene and fight your way for survival in Glowdot Productions’ Rogue Runner for iPhone and iPod Touch.

Rogue Runner for iPhone and iPod Touch begins with Agent #022201-22C’s breakout from a top secret base located in the desert, with your choice of vehicles which you have commandeered from the facility. You may choose from either a jeep or a tank with unlimited ammo and a power boost which will help jump your vehicle when the need arises.

As soon as you break through the base perimeter, the hunt begins. Land and air assets have been alerted about your escape and are ready to stop you dead in your tracks. On the ground, you will face gun toting men in black, either on foot or on pickup trucks armed with mounted machine guns in the rear. Also, green aliens, the reason why you’re being shot at, are also on the prowl to get you. In the air, you will encounter black helicopters, as well as UFOs. Not enough challenge for you? Well, there’s more. The terrain is full of deep crevices which you must jump over in order to avoid falling to your death.

To control your character, Rogue Runner has provided you with two basic buttons; left button to jump and right button to fire your weapon. Controls are responsive, however you must learn to be smart when using the jump button because crevices are abundant and you don’t want to catch yourself with solid ground to land on.

Rogue Runner’s graphics offer a nostalgic feel to the game. It’s not the most polished looking game we’ve ever played, but it works. Game sounds included are perfectly suited for the game, as loud explosions and gun fire fill the air.

Recommendation
Rogue Runner for iPhone and iPod Touch is a fun and challenging game, whenever the mood strikes. At the time of this review, the game provides leaderboards via OpenFeint and a game summary with your most recent stats. The developer will soon offer a Halloween Theme update coming this month to include ghosts and zombies. Rogue Runner is available at the App Store for $.99.
