Memory checker iPhoneFree Memory, a utility app for the iPhone that lets you view and free up more RAM memory has been updated, to Version 1.5.

The main update now supports the iPhone 3GS and the larger amounts of memory available on it, as the 3GS of course has 256MB of RAM, unlike the 128MB on the two previous iPhone models.

Now you can not only see the larger amounts of free memory currently available on your 3GS – but you can choose to free up over 128MB which will come in useful for some resource-hungry games.

If you’ve already got over 40MB free and ask the app to free up more, Free Memory will show you a screen offering a choice of two modes to use, Quick Mode will free up as much as possible quickly; Game Mode will free 128MB or more and will take longer.

Free Memory, is available for $.99 at the iTunes App Store.

Does it just show us or actually free up memory?

I use this to free up some memory before I start a big game app like Tiger Woods Golf. It seems to make the apps run smoother on a 1G iPod Touch. I'd have like 22 MB ram before and this would get it up to 34 ram available.
