Landformer App Review for iPhone and iPod Touch
Streaming Colour Studios announced their third game awhile ago, and it was released today. The idea is a great one: you’re given six tools that have to be used correctly on a 5 x 5 grid of land to level it out completely. The puzzle genre is proved true once you get past the beginner levels, so get on your thinking cap and start leveling!
Review
In Landformer you are given 6 different tools to level out a 5 x 5 grid of land. The grid will include different landforms with their appropriate heights, and you must wisely use the toots to raise or lower them.
The tools are really just stencils; they will each put you into control of a different area and number of grids in the 5 x 5 area. They are displayed along the bottom of the screen: you select one, center it by tapping anywhere on the screen, and then lower/higher the land selected to your choice. The concept may sound somewhat confusing to you, but once you watch the video and further play the game, you’ll understand.
The game will require the use of your mind. Using one tool will open up the use of another which will eventually lead to level land. For each level, an amount of moves that must be used is specified. That number proves that the puzzles are not impossible (the thought that will pass through your head once you get to the more difficult puzzles).
Let’s get something straight: the pricing of the game. The game is free to download with additional DLC (in-app purchases) via the store inside the app. Additional content is something that you shouldn’t miss. For only $1.99, you get an additional 50 levels, and for $0.99 you get another theme which will satisfy your need for a change in artwork. The free version only comes with the easy beginner levels, and in-app ads; these can be terminated by buying one of the in-app purchases.
The game is one that I cannot possible forget. It comes with a built in level creation and sharing feature which works flawlessly. You level is given a specific URL which can be posted anywhere for anyone to use. It really is fun to see what kinds of things you can make.
Overall, Landformer was a game that I had a wonderful experience with. While, everything is top-notch and spot on, I did end up skipping a few of the more difficult levels that were beyond my brain capacity.
Recommendation
Both of the DLC’s are worth it. The idea, artwork, challenging levels, and flawless level creator/editor are the elements that kept me playing and will keep me playing for a long time to come!
