Gambol App Review for iPhone and iPod Touch: A Correct Representation of Physics
It’s constant app after app where the developers state that their app has the best representation of physics: well those developers or lying. Finally, an app that can be trusted with physics: Gambol.
Review
Gambol is an app of pure physics. brain challenging levels, and addiction. The premise of every level is simple: guide the ball to the exit using the moveable objects around you and physics/gravity.
The levels are designed so that there are springs (trampolines), rotating platforms, and other moveable objects. Using these, you must correctly make the ball reach the exit.
Moving these objects is not difficult at all: you just have the click the objects and then drag them to the position desired. Sadly, you cannot move the angle of the objects which would’ve been a better feature; the outcome being more difficult levels.
If you ever mess up on a level, you can easily reset the level using the button at the top of the screen. This is also where the button for activating the ball is located.
Not only does the game have many challenging levels, but it has a full-blown level creator that can be used to design levels which can be played by other people who own the app. Likewise, you can download other people’s levels. So far, there are about 50 created levels, and they’re pretty unique and challenging. In fact, I have actually created a few levels, and have had fun doing so. However, there are some minuses that I have to mention about the level creator: (next paragraph)
First off, there is no apparent way to delete any objects that you either messed up on or don’t need. It’s pretty frustrating to have to start over every time I make a mistake. Secondly, you have to name your levels before testing the level, and if there are any flaws the name goes away. So if you have a level that you are constantly tweaking while also testing, it takes a tremendously long time to finish up the level. If these could be fixed, the level creator would be one of the bests I have seen.
The visuals are like any other game: doodles. They’re okay for this type of simple game, so there’s really no feedback that I can provide on them.
Overall, Gambol is a game that is not worth passing down. It has quick response time, has tons of content, and, in a nutshell, one of the best and addicting games on the app store.
Tips
Experimenting is the only thing that I can offer. It isn’t the best tip, but it’s the only thing that can be done if you have no idea how to solve a level.
Recommendation
No doubt about it, Gambol is one of the most highly recommended games to people who like puzzlers, and physics involved games.
