Stick Skater App Review for iPhone and iPod Touch
Stick Skater, a 2D skateboarding game, was recently released by Traction Games got me interested, so I decided to see what I could get out of it. Here’s what I’ll say: I’m satisfied!
Review
If you’ve ever felt that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 was too boring or over priced, Stick Skater is you’re best bet. It is a fun and new 2D skating game the has two control schemes based on the type of gamer you are, is packed on levels, and does not fall short on the amount of available tricks. Your object is to reach the end of all of the levels successfully and with as many points as you can achieve.
Like I said, there are two control schemes to choose from when you first boot up the game which can later be configured in the “Controls” menu. The first one is the one where the tricks are all randomly done for you with the push of one button and is mainly for casual gamers whereas the advanced one is for hardcore gamers and has a joystick that control the tricks. I feel that the joystick is more enjoyable as it gets you more involved in the game.
There is only one mode of play and that is the one where you play levels chronologically in their respectable areas. There are 5 environments each with a number of levels and I can tell that more will be coming based on the fact that the fifth one was recently added in an update just a couple of weeks after the release of the game. They are a little bland in the backgrounds, but for the most part admirable.
In each level you will have to do tricks and reach the end of the level without completely dying. Many obstacles such as trash cans and sudden blanks in the sidewalk can contribute to you falling and losing lives. You must either jump over these or if they are grind-able, then grind on them. Pretty much everything that is done with the joystick gives you points.
There are so many tricks that I cannot explain how to activate them. I will explain the basic controls however. There is always, no matter what control scheme you pick, a single button on the left-bottom side of the screen which controls when the skater will accelerate. Tapping this continuously will make the skater keep on dragging the ground with his leg causing you to go faster. If you choose the simple control method, the single button on the right will control everything. The joystick has multiple functions: moving it in any other way then up will perform a trick. Moving up makes the skater jump. To grind you simply jerk the joystick up and then down when you come to a wall or railing.
The game provides tons of gameplay and I’m pretty sure more is on its way. The skater, like stated in the title, is a stick figure which provides a good humor if you compare him to the rest of the environment. Overall, the game is a great one to own and should be on everyone’s priority list!
Tips
You really don’t have to learn and memorize all of the tricks. You can perform random ones.
Recommendation
It’s great to own this game especially if you’re a fan of trial and error games, skateboarding games, and most of all addicting ones. Buy it now for only $0.99!
