Rabah Shihab’s three friend team worked together in creating a game for the Amiga platform 16 years ago, and now here it is for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Combining the wonderful and loved genres of puzzle and platforming to create a game so addictive and frustrating that you will, at some points, feel like throwing your iDevice on the ground. The game being described: Babylonian Twins-The Quest for Peace in Ancient Iraq!

Review

Assume the role of the two twin Babylonian princes, Nasir and Blasir as you go on a quest for peace in ancient Iraq. Only one of them can be controlled at a certain time while the other turns to a stone statue functioning as a stool to help reach higher spots that would otherwise be impossible to reach. Each has their own advantages and abilities which come in handy and help access areas that are mandatory to get to in order for a level to be beaten. Blasir’s special strengths include being able to jump higher and perform a destructive running dash both in and out of the air which can break through weak walls. Nasir can break through weak ground and shatter various pots which could possess items essential to the completion of a level.

The object of each level is to obtain of all five of the holy palm trees strewn everywhere. To get to these places, each character has to be used and many puzzle like situations will stand in your way. For example: there are gates in each level that have to be opened with a button in the floor being constantly pressed down. In order to get past it, you must make either Nasir or Blasir stand on it, and then switch to the next character. The order of things done makes a big difference in the outcome of the level and where you will ultimately get.

The characters are controlled with a nice d-pad that is quickly responsive unlike many other games, and a button on the right side of the screen that controls the attacks of both characters. Special strengths are activated by the attack button being held down.

Spikes, fires, and enemies will almost always be in the way. They can all be jumped over while enemies could also be fended off with weapons which makes them functionless and paralyzed for a few seconds. If you make contact with any of these three things, you will lose some health of the active character. Both characters have different health bars, and when it has drained completely, a life is lost.

Over 12 levels of hardcore mind bending puzzles is packed into Babylonian Twins. They all have been carefully designed to provide the most playing time that any puzzle platformer could ever provide!

The kind of artwork in this game is hard to come by in the app store. It features fancy backgrounds and brushed up sharp objects and characters. Everything to do with visual design is extraordinary!

Many games claim that they are “the best puzzle games to ever be made” and that they will provide you with tough and nail biting situations where you have no idea what has to be done next. I have played these games, and they do nothing of the sort. Happily, I can say that Babylonian Twins does!

Babylonian Twins provides me with some of the most fun that I have experienced in over a long time. It has challenging puzzles that could easily take up to 20-30 minutes each and has wonderful and eye appealing graphics.
