Dwindle App Review for iPhone and iPod Touch; one of my favorite new games

Some apps definitely deserve to be on the Top 25 in the App Store list and have the potential to. Dwindle falls under that category. It will wear your hands down to little stubs only if you get addicted, but it’s hard not to!

Review

In Dwindle, your goal is to eliminate orbs before the time limit runs out and the next wave of orbs appear. Triangles, squares, and circles are all removed with the same concept. Here’s how:

You have to draw a shape according to what geometrical figured orb you are trying to eliminate by touching and dragging on the screen. So, for a square orb you have to draw a square on the screen. You can move the shape that is drawn, by clicking on it and dragging to where it suits you best. Then when you’ve got your drawn shape in place, all you have to do is tap on the screen. The shape that you draw must somehow be in contact with the orbs that you are attempting to eliminate. What’s the catch? The shapes are constantly moving and might be in the midst of other shapes.

What makes the game difficult is that you lose points if you eliminate an orb with a drawn shape that doesn’t correspond with the orb(s). Many different patterns of shapes will be displayed on the screen, so you have to be careful on where and when you draw shapes.

Shapes that float around the screen can be tapped. That physically paralyzes them, so they don’t move. What’s the purpose behind this feature? Once a shape becomes paralyzed, it attracts more of its kind towards it so that it will become easier to draw a shape around them.

There are a few abilities that can help you in each level. Each one has its own outcome on the gameplay.

Two game modes are available for you to play in:

Action: this game mode contains the levels which have to be beaten to access the next. After level 12 is completed, the next level is open for playing.

Endless: as said by the name, this mode never ends by itself until you make too many errors. Waves of shapes constantly flood the screen. A bar at the top of the screen shows you how much “health” you have left until the mode will end. When orbs are eliminated successfully with the corresponding shape, the bar goes up. It goes down when you make a mistake and eliminate the wrong orbs. This mode has randomly generated modes.

Each level has its own uniqueness; the patterns in which the shapes appear on the screen and shapes that the shapes form. Each level has a certain amount of waves. This also adds a downfall to the game. Once you beat all of the levels, you cannot replay them as they might feel too easy. If you haven’t cleared a wave by the time the next one is activated, you could fail the level. This will force you to restart.

The controls may seem confusing to you from the way that I explained them. If you are having trouble, watch the gameplay video and tutorial photos which are both below.

Overall, Dwindle is great for trips, which is where I spent most of my time playing it. It’s also great for times when you’re bored. The graphics are like drawings, so in other words, doodlish with crumpling paper animations!

You’re going to experience shapes like never before with Dwindle which is definitely an optimal experience that you can’t miss out on!

Tips

Always try to beat a wave before the next one is activated. When there are two waves displayed on the screen, it is difficult to recover and you can pretty much restart the level manually through the menu before you fail the level.

Recommendation

Dwindle is a game for all gamers. It would be a no-brained to turn down the low affordable price of only $1.99. Tons of gameplay is packed into this unique, new, creative, and addictive game.

Couldn't agree more: this app rocks! Since I've downloaded it I'm truly addicted. As the review states, I also travel a lot, but recently find myself glued to my iPhone on the couch at home as well. Like the look of it too. Give it a try, it's gold!
