Homerun Battle 3D provides the perfect arena to show the world, you’ve got what it takes to be the homerun king. The game provides three modes of play: Classic, Arcade and my all time favorite, Online Matchup. The goal in every mode is to hit as many homeruns as you can but with added twists. In Classic Mode, you will be given a chance to hit as many homeruns before reaching 10 outs. Here everything but a homerun is considered an out, so be sure to make every hit count. Arcade Mode is played with a slight difference. Unlike Classic Mode, a hit will not be counted as an out, only fouls and strikes apply here. And finally there’s the Online Matchup Mode, where Homerun Battle 3D truly shines. Here is where you’ll match wits against the best online players in the world, using the same out count as that of the Arcade mode. You’ll be able to slug it out while keeping a close eye on your opponent’s progress through a picture-in-picture window located on the top right hand corner of the screen.

Online Matchup provides the most entertaining aspect of the game. There are plenty of opponents to choose from and matching is done fairly quickly. Be the first to fill your points bar and not only will you gain rank but have the opportunity to brag about it via Facebook and Twitter. I would have to say that Homerun Battle 3D has one of, if not, the most extensive ranking systems I’ve seen to date.

The game provides many challenges, achievements and customization. Scoring is based on the distance of the hits plus you’ll receive addition points when you hit the ball out of the park. There are also bonuses for different achievements such as hitting the poles and scoreboards, as well. The baseball field is divided into three zones and once in a while, you are challenged to hit the ball in one of the three zones to accrue more points. To unlock the game’s uniform packages, you will need to hit as many gold balls when presented to you during the course of the games. Then will you be able to upgrade and buy items such as a full Navy Officer uniform to a Dreadful Mace to use as a baseball bat.

Controls have never been easier, simply tilt the phone to aim the bat and touch anywhere on the screen to swing. Really, it’s that simple. Just give yourself enough practice and you’ll get the timing right depending on what the pitcher throws at you. Graphics are visually stunning from the changing stadiums to the day to night modes. The design team must be commended for their attention to detail. Animations keep the player engaged throughout the game from the minute you see your player walk to the batter’s box full of attitude and confidence. The game’s music suits the theme to a tee, but should you prefer to listen from your iPod collection, there is also an option to do so from within the game itself.

Homerun Battle 3D, formerly known as Baseball Slugger, is a total package. However, I was rather disappointed in the fact that I was not able to use the original character which I had gained most of my ranking points with two iPhones ago, back when this game was still called Baseball Slugger. Perhaps Com2uS will find a way to let us avid fans re-use our original players, even though our devices may have changed. Pretty please.

Recommendation
Homerun Battle 3D comes highly recommended to baseball fans of all ages. A game with a simple premise – to hit as many homeruns as you can. It’s fun, challenging and very addicting, especially when playing online. This game since its inception has become such a big hit, you’ll never run out of people to play against online.
