Sailboat Championship PRO is a very graphically pleasing sailboat game that brings many aspects of the real thing to a game for your phone.
Review
Starting out this game you feel like you are out to sea, the intro screen floats as if you were setting on a boat. Once you begin to play, you must first complete the training part of the game. In order to do this you will have to download the free Sailboat Championship app that is in the app store. The training is a fun way to learn how to control your sailboat during the races and it will cover all the basics and teach you the skills necessary to play the game.
Once you are trained and ready to race your boat you can hire a sailor to help you control your boat better, this is something that you only get to use in the beginning as later on you will have to control all aspects of the sailing on your own. Once in the water you will see the outstanding graphics this app has to offer. One thing I really noticed and liked about this game is how you can actually see through the water and see rocks below. This just added to the overall experience this app provided. You will start playing the Porto Rock Regattas that will offer you 33 levels to play on. Once you have played a level one time you will get to race your ghost boat and its actually pretty fun to do so. In order to advance to the next race you have to complete the current one in a certain amount of time earning stars that are needed to move on. There is also online leaderboards and challenges via OpenFeint.
When playing this app I actually had a hard time beating the levels. The training went by very quickly and easily but when it came to playing the Regatta, I was only able to beat the first two levels and have not made it past that. I, along with three other people I had try it were never able to get enough starts to unlock the third level.
The graphics are outstanding from the very clear water, quality of the boats to the scenery around the maps it’s all there. The sounds are very pleasing and match up very well to the game. The controls are very easy to learn and it’s a breeze to control your sailboat. The only issue I had with the game is in its current state it’s challenging, a little to challenging.
Recommendation
Sailboat Championship PRO is currently $2.99 and is a great app for that price. The only thing I am hung up on is the level of difficulty the gameplay has. I recommend this app to anyone who is a fan of racing games or sailboat games. I am however really hoping the developers post an update very soon to make this game more playable if they don’t I will not be able to play this app past level two.
