Cupcake lovers, listen up! Care to design your very own cupcake? Thanks to Maverick Software’s latest creation, Cupcakes! for iPhone and iPod Touch, you can bake your cupcakes, decorate and eat them too. So get your sweet tooth ready cause we’re about to make some cupcakes.

Review

Cupcakes! for iPhone and iPod Touch begins by having you select from 20 different liner designs to place on your baking pan. Once you’ve lined the pan, you will need to choose the cupcake batter to fill the liners. There are 10 types of batters ranging from White to Chocolate/Vanilla Swirl. As soon as that’s done, you are ready to place the cupcakes into the oven. Set the baking time and press on the Bake button. Don’t worry about how long you will need to set the oven for because, unlike the real thing, all of your cupcakes will come out perfectly baked, regardless of how long you bake them for.

Once your cupcakes are done, shake your device to get until all the cupcakes are out of the pan. No mittens are necessary. Now let the fun begin! It’s time to decorate your cupcakes. Simply choose your frosting and using your fingers, start moving over the top of the cupcake until you’ve completely frosted the top. You can choose from 20 types of frosting and 32 toppings. You may decorate your cupcakes with as many different combinations as you’d like. The sky’s the limit when it comes to your confectionary masterpiece. After you’ve finished, you may eat your cupcake by pressing the Eat button, but wait. Before devouring this sugary delight, why not first email a photo of your creation to your friends or add a photo of it to your photo album.

Cupcakes made with the app look amazingly tasty on the iPhone. Every little detail given from the liners to the toppings have made this app the success that it is. The app is straight and to the point with minimal game sounds. Controls are so simple to use, little kids will have no problem figuring it out on their own.

This game is quite fun to play with. I do have one suggestion to the developers. Perhaps, in a future update there would be a way to place icing on the cake to spell out someone’s name so we can email it to them during special occasions.

Recommendation

Cupcakes! for iPhone and iPod Touch comes recommended to kids of all ages. It’s fun, entertaining, there’s no mess to clean up and best of all, it’s calorie free! Cupcakes! is now available at the iTunes App Store for $.99.

    I don't get it.

I have been eying this App in the App Store for some time now (with much curiosity), wondering why it was so popular. After reading the reviews for the App it looks like so many of them come from the developer's own accounts.

How is this a "game"? There's no timer, no points, no purpose… you just put stuff on a cupcake. It doesn't sound interesting to me at all–maybe it's for pre-schoolers?

I've blown many a dollar on goofy iPhone Apps in the past, but I just can't seem to pull the trigger on this one. Why would I want to decorate virtual cupcakes and then harass my friends with pictures of them? How is this "fun" ?

Perhaps someone can shed some light?
