RIM has just announced that they are currently working on a new Blackberry browser that is set to be out at the end of 2010. Most blackberry users will agree this is a much needed update but will it be enough to compete with all the flash from iPhone and the Android market? This update is coming after researching users who stated they would rather use an iPhone or Android phone browser vs the Blackberry.

Rumor has it the new browser will be based off of Webkit (just like the iPhone’s Safari browser) and will be capable of handling AJAX, CSS, and HTML5, no mention of flash was made.

RIM has also stated that their new browser will be much more network efficient. I see this as a step in the right direction but is it too late and why the end of 2010 seems like a small thing for Blackberry users to be looking forward to compared to what Apple and Google are throwing around this year so far.

I used to enjoy having a Blackberry, but the browser was just brutal. Nice to see that will finally get it updated. The OS still looks like something from the 90's though. My opinion, Blackberry is failing and unable to compete in the market any longer. Too bad, really…

I love my  9700, and yes browser is behind but I also use opera so I really don't have any complaints… I guess what I'm trying to say is that I satisfied but would welcome a new browser, the only thing I would change with RIM would be the O.S. Updates, there too few and far between!!!

It was set to launch at the end of financial 2010 which ended in February. They showed the browser at MWC in Barcelona so while it is delayed it will be out most likely by summer.
