Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock Review: What Else Can The iPhone Do?

With the introduction of the iPhone developers were able to maximize the amount an alarm clock can do. Sleep Cycle by, Lexware Labs can track your sleep and wake you up at an appropriate time so you are not grumpy when you wake up. It offers a graph of your sleep and when you enter a deep sleep and when you are dreaming. This works by placing your phone (with charger) on your bed. The app no longer supports the touch because of overheating issues. The app uses the proximity sensor to turn off the screen when your iPhone is in the bed. This helps with the overheating issue. The app tracks which phase you are in by detecting the movement in the bed using the accelerometer. In order for you to completely understand the app I have kept a journal(below) on how every day has gone. Below the journal is the complete review.

Journal

Day 1

Today I woke up BEFORE the alarm! That was a big disappointment and probably will push back the calibration a day. It was very neat to see the graph it provided though, I also saw that I slept for 7 hours and 21 minutes. Let’s see what Sleep Cycle has in store for me tomorrow!

Day 2

Today I woke up within the 30-minute window before the alarm went off. I have decided to leave my iPhone on Airplane Mode so there is no radiation that is emitting which I think is causing me to wake up and then fall back asleep. I slept for 7 hours and 01 minutes. Tonight I try it out again.

Day 3

Today my charger was not in all the way and my phone died! What luck! I will try once again tonight.

Day 4

Today Sleep Cycle woke me up! It seemed like it worked a little bit but not so much of a difference, yet. I have heard it seems like it helps a lot after 3 consecutive days of use. I will have this journal going until Friday March, 12 to see what occurs.

Day 5

Today Sleep Cycle woke me up exactly at the alarm time, this is because I was in a very deep sleep. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow!

Day 6

Today, Sleep Cycle woke me up about 15 minutes into the alarm time. Let’s see how the last day is tomorrow!

Day 7
Sleep Cycle woke me up this time and I felt perfectly awake. I will be continuing Sleep Cycle past this review.

Review

After using Sleep Cycle for 7 days I can safely say that this app has greatly helped by morning wake up time. After the first days of technical difficulty I really started to see improvement in my sleep. The app features eight different alarm sounds and allows you to e-mail your charts. The option of Facebook integration I would say is kind of useless who would want to share the way they sleep to friends?

The alarm is very helpful but I do think it is very neat to see the way I sleep. IT would be great for doctors who want to see how their patient sleeps. I would also say the graph in the instructions of the app are a lot more detailed than the ones in the actual report.

The alarms are very annoying which does allow you to wake up easier.

Overall, I do feel more alert when I wake up using Sleep Cycle.

Recommendation

I would recommend this app for anybody who has problems with waking up.

Tips

Place it to the far left of your bed

Do not use the iPod Touch, it will work but it could overheat.
