Ever been deathly afraid of clowns? Well, if you are, here’s one app where you can learn to face your fears and get some payback in return. Knife Toss, developed by Elevate Entertainment, for iPhone and iPod Touch straps a clown onto a spinning wheel with balloon targets with you armed to the teeth with an unlimited number of throwing knives.

Knife Toss‘s goal is for you to take out as many of the balloon targets without hitting the clown. As I’ve mentioned before the clown is strapped onto a spinning wheel with balloon targets all around him. There are 3 levels of difficulty: Easy, Medium and Hard. The game starts at the Easy level and once you have completed round 14, you will move up to the Medium level, with the Hard level beginning in round 20. You will be allotted a certain number of seconds for which to pop all the targets. Should you happen to hit the clown too many times, the game will end immediately.

The first few levels start off with the clown spinning slowly to get you acquainted with the controls. As you begin to move up in rounds, the clown will spin faster and you will be given more targets to hit. Hitting balloons successively creates a “streak” which will add a bonus to your score. The longer the streak is held, the higher the bonus. Knife Toss also throws in power-ups and power-downs that add to the challenge. Random target icons appear from behind the spinning wheel during play. If you hit these, you can activate numerous powers including stopping the wheel, slowing it down and so forth.

To aim your throw, tilt your device to guide the crosshairs right in the center of the balloon targets, and then simply touch the screen to throw your knife. Knife Toss uses bright and colorful graphics with a whimsical theme, something we all come to expect from a circus setting. The provided background music only plays when you’re at the main menu but the game noises from the knives moving along the air down to the clown voiceovers are right on the money.

Knife Toss keeps track of all your previous scores on a High Score page and uses OpenFeint for online leaderboards and achievements. The game also gives you the option of posting your scores on Facebook and Twitter.

Recommendation
Knife Toss for iPhone and iPod Touch comes highly recommended. It is a fun and amusing game that has tons of replay value. This game is quite addicting, visually captivating and all with easy to use controls. Knife Toss is available now at the iTunes App Store for $.99.
