Silent Bodyguard, developed by Fun At Work, LLC, may be the single most important tool you and your loved ones could ever have on their iPhone or iPod Touch. It is a low cost personal security app that sends out a silent alarm by way of text and email messages to your emergency contacts and provides information on your current location, using your device’s GPS locator every 60 seconds.

Review
Developed by Fun At Work, LLC, Silent Bodyguard will send emergency text and email messages to one or up to three contacts that you choose. To begin, enter your personal info with your name, phone and email address. Then, complete the form by listing one SMS and three emergency email contacts.

The app’s main screen appears just like any wallpaper, with the exception of three buttons displayed at the bottom of the screen representing Whistle, Waves and Tools. Instructions given to set up the app are fairly simple to follow. To activate the silent alarm, you simply press on the Silent Bodyguard’s icon (wrench), which launches the application and press the whistle button, which turns the wave’s button color from red to green. Once it becomes active, the app will send out text and emails to the contacts you’ve provided, every 60 seconds until you deactivate the alarm by either pressing on the whistle button again or exiting the app by hitting the home button.

Of course, there’s no way to truly test the application, however, you can send a sample email to yourself to see exactly what the message you will be sending out will appear. Here is the sample message I sent myself. The subject header read, Emergency! Sent from Silent Bodyguard iPhone application.

Here is the sample of the email:

This is Mary Ann , I am in an emergency situation, please help!

My iPhone has provided this location: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=@34.741377,-77.402215&zoom=14

Mary Ann has identified you as an emergency contact, and the application has been activated, sending you this emergency signal. The iPhone will send out an email with an updated location every 60 seconds while the application is active and the user has a cellphone signal.

Silent Bodyguard does not give out any noise or visual signals alerting anyone that you have activated the silent alarm. It requires an internet signal for it to work. So as long as you have cell or WiFi coverage, the app should still work. This app comes with a one year of free emergency messaging.

To prevent abuse, the app restricts the number of text messages you can send as emergency signals. If the emergency button is activated more than 5 times in a month, you will be restricted to only two activations per month, as they use their own security server to send these out.

On a further note, this by all means, is not to be used as a substitute for calling 911 in an emergency. Silent Bodyguard is meant to be used as a communication tool; one that may very well save your life or your loved ones.

Recommendation
Silent Bodyguard for iPhone and iPod Touch comes highly recommended to everyone, regardless of age or gender. This is a must-have application with just one simple goal in mind, to protect you and your loved ones from harm’s way. It is available at the iTunes App Store now for only $3.99.
