Motorola Droid 2.1 Update Coming This Week

According to Motorola’s official Facebook page, we’ll likely see the Motorola Droid get updated to Android 2.1. Here is what they said on their page:

Hi all– we know you are frustrated with the lack of details regarding Android software upgrades and we sincerely apologize for not being able to share info sooner. We’re happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later …this week as well. Thanks for your patience and continued support.

Here is what you’ll likely see in the upcoming update:

  • Looks like it’ll be based off the Android2.1-update1 build that Google put out last week on the Nexus One.
  • And that means expect multitouch in the browser, to go along with the pinch-to-zoom that was enabled on the Droid for Google Maps just last week.
  • Google Googles is baked into the ROM by default (also standard in Android 2.1-U1).
  • The Droid’s home screen remains as is — no new rotating app thingy instead of the drawer, and no live wallpapers.
  • The news and weather widget from the Nexus One will be included.

So let’s all keep an eye out sometime this week!

If the home screens stays the same, do you think that the 5 screens will not happen? That is the one I was really looking forward to.

My question is why would Motorola do something like this? I’d rather see no upgrade at all over this.

number speed dial anyone! don't like taking up space for icon dialing..this should be standard. Hard press on the dial pad numbers like every other phone…easy..right?

This update is proported to be the one containing flash 10.1 support. Theoretical Hulu support sounds good to me.

Will flash be available? Please say yes.

  7. jackmcjohnson says:

no flash 10.1 isnt going to be available as of yet. but according to adobe, it will be out before june 2009. bummer, i know

I read that the upgrade won't have flash wich sucks I really wanted it, other than that I guess the other stuff is still good. I'm kind of disappointed .

Multitouch, what else could u ask for!!

How about a BETTER copy and past tool for email!!!! The current way of doing a copy and paste from one email to another is terrible. Also, why not a FINAL spell check before sending….these are two items I consider to be a must. I love the speed, the look, but these two items really rub me the wrong way. I was a first gen blackberry owner and have owned countless others since then and I reluctantly made the switch. I can't go back to the BB but hope a remedy is found for these two items.

All i really cared for with this update was the 5-screen mode. I hope that isnt being dropped
